Brightening up the balcony

25 april 2019

The balcony is the place where you can enjoy a bit of outdoor life if you don't have a garden. Sit in the sun in spring or enjoy a glass of wine on a sultry summer's evening. It's extra nice outside when your balcony is nicely decorated. However, this is not always easy as space is often limited. Being creative with the space you do have is the solution. In this article we will give you 7 tips for playful design to create a cheerful balcony.

    1. Make use of the height

Balconies are often quite small spaces, so make the best use of the space you have available by thinking in terms of height. For example, place a high storage cabinet or stack old fruit crates on top of each other. You can also choose to hang accessories, such as mirrors, wall vases, garden posters, etc.
    2. Create privacy

When you have an open balcony, you are soon in full view. A balcony screen can therefore be a good way of creating some privacy. After all, nothing is as nice as chilling out in the open air undisturbed. In addition, you are also protected from the wind and if you use a colourful partition, it can brighten up your balcony even more!
    3. Artificial grass or decking

Do you live in the middle of town and don't have a garden with a lawn, but do have a nice balcony? Then artificial grass on your balcony might be a good solution! This way you have your own green (low maintenance) bed at your disposal all year round. Rather not have artificial grass, but don't feel like looking at that grey concrete floor either? Perhaps a wooden decking is something for you!
    4. Plants

You can easily brighten up your balcony by placing beautiful plants. However, when buying plants you should bear in mind that you only have limited space at your disposal. Therefore, you should (also) use hanging plants. This way, you can quickly create a cosy balcony full of colour without taking up too much space.
    5. BBQ

Once you have pimped out your balcony, you will of course want to show it off to everyone. There's no better way to show off your balcony than by inviting all your friends over for a BBQ. These days there are special balcony BBQ's, which you can attach to the railing and which make it possible to barbecue even on the smallest of balconies. Don't forget to check the regulations of your apartment building if it is allowed to BBQ on the balcony.
    6. Balcony bar

A balcony bar is the perfect solution to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat. All snacks and drinks can easily be placed on the bar while you enjoy the last rays of sunshine. Of course, the balcony bar is also perfect for working or playing games. If you're a bit handy, you can make a balcony bar yourself!
    7. Mood lighting

Summer evenings can get quite late, so don't forget to think about the right lighting. A simple chain of lights can add a lot of atmosphere!
Hopefully, these tips will help you get started with brightening up your balcony. We look forward to seeing the results! Don't forget to send us a few snapshots(info@vbtverhuurmakelaars.nl) when you're done. We wish you lots of fun and success.Source: Eigen Huis & Tuin
