Home contents insurance

The contents insurance compensates for damage to the 'loose' items in your house, garden. Paintwork and floors are also covered by this insurance. The combined value of all the items in your home is often worth more than you think. Damage can therefore be very expensive. It is therefore important to take out good home contents insurance for your home. If your household contents are damaged by fire, burglary, storm or water, for example, the insurance company will pay you compensation. This way you will not face a huge bill.

Home insurance

You may now be wondering about the 'fixed' parts of your house. These parts are insured with a building insurance. Fixed parts are the parts that you cannot remove from the house without causing damage, for example the pipes, central heating, bathroom and toilet. When you rent a house, the owner of the house takes care of the building insurance. As a tenant, you do not have to take out your own insurance for this.

Tenant's Interest

In consultation with vb&t, you may make adjustments to the house, for example to the bathroom or kitchen. These adjustments fall under the tenant's interest. Because you have made the adjustments, they are not insured under the landlord's building insurance. You can therefore include the tenant's interest in your home contents insurance. With most home contents insurances, the tenant's interest is included in the standard coverage up to a maximum amount. Have you made any alterations to your rented house that fall under the tenant's interest? Then check carefully whether the tenant's interest is included in your home contents insurance. In addition, do not forget to check if the insured amount is high enough for the value of the adjustments in the house.

Liability insurance

With a liability insurance, you are insured if you break other people's belongings or if someone is injured because of you. An accident can happen easily and this can result in a high claim for damages. It is therefore advisable to take out liability insurance. If you rent a flat from vb&t, you are obliged to take out liability insurance with a maximum coverage of €100,000.
