New energy label design for homes and buildings from 29 May 2026

As previously communicated, listed monuments will also be subject to the energy label requirement from 29 May 2026. In addition, the energy label will be updated with a new design and will provide more detailed information about the energy performance of a home or building.

From 29 May 2026, the energy label for homes and buildings will feature a new design with more detailed information about a property's energy performance. The updated label includes icons, pictograms, useful links, and a QR code directing owners and tenants to Verbeterjehuis.nl, where they can find information on energy-saving measures that can be implemented.

The new label will also indicate whether a newly constructed building meets the requirements for a zero-emission building (A0) and whether a home complies with the applicable insulation or renovation standards.

These changes follow the revised European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD IV). Energy labels issued before 29 May 2026 will remain valid.

Office buildings Energy Label C

Office buildings are required to have at least an Energy Label C. This obligation does not apply to offices located in protected listed monuments.
