Prinsjesdag 2024: wat betekent het voor wonen?

4 oktober 2024

On 17 September 2024, the annual Budget Day (Prinsjesdag) took place, during which the government presented the million note and national budget. This year, housing policy and financial support measures for tenants were again on the agenda.

The cabinet underlined the importance of affordable housing and announced further measures to ease the pressure on the housing market. At vb&t, we follow these developments closely. We would like to take you through the main points that were mentioned on the day.

Rent allowance to be raised further

It was announced on Budget Day that the rent allowance for low incomes will be increased by an average of €34 per month. This measure is intended to provide additional financial support to 1.5 million households. The government expects this increase to help households reduce their housing costs.

More (affordable) housing

The government's aim is to build 100,000 new homes every year. A budget of €5 billion will be made available for this purpose until 2029. To achieve this goal, the government wants to make the construction process more efficient and faster. They will work with local authorities, housing associations and market players and make clear agreements to ensure progress. Finally, the government aims to make investment in rental housing more attractive by reducing the transfer tax from 10.4% to 8%.
