What do you need to think about when you move in together?

Are you about to move in together? Then it's time to start thinking about how you're going to go about it. Of course it is fun to pick out a new interior and to go shopping together, but there are also more serious matters that need to be taken care of. How do you go about that? Read about it here!

Financial

An important part of living together is the financial part. How are you going to arrange this? The easiest way is to put your income and expected expenses together in an Excel file. With expenses it is important that you put the fixed costs in a separate column, so you can see exactly what you need to take into account each month. When all the expenses are listed, it is time to discuss how you will share them from now on and which ones each will keep for themselves.Perhaps your incomes are very different, in which case you can adjust your expenses accordingly by dividing them proportionally. This means that you contribute to the joint expenses in proportion to your income. Opening a joint account may be useful to keep an overview. You can then both pay your share of the income into this.

Insurance and subscriptions

Do you both currently have a subscription to Netflix? This is no longer necessary when you live in the same house. So check all your subscriptions together to avoid paying for them twice. You can also share some insurances. Check together which insurances you both have and decide which you will take out together.

Looking for a house together or moving in with each other?

Whether you are going to live together in the rented house of one of the two or move into a new rented house together makes a big difference. Is one of you moving in with the other? Then the partner must submit a request for joint tenancy. You are only a co-tenant after the landlord has given written permission. If you are married or have a registered partnership, this is not necessary.

The furnishings

And then it is time for the fun stuff! Buying furnishings and other items for the house together is a big project, but it is fun to do together. Will you be buying furniture such as a sofa, bed and dining table? Keep in mind the delivery time and order them in time, so you can enjoy them when you move in.
